With the new released current branch 1602, a new feature called server cluster maintenance coordination was added to ConfigMgr, it comes close to a Cluster Aware updating solution. You will find it on the General Tab of a collection named &#8220;All devices are part of the same server cluster&#8221;:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/clusterawareupdating.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2186\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2186\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/clusterawareupdating.png?w=283\" alt=\"ConfigMgr Cluster Aware Updating\" width=\"283\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/clusterawareupdating.png 526w, https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/clusterawareupdating-283x300.png 283w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 283px) 100vw, 283px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>By a click on settings, you can configure the options for this collection, containing all members from a particular cluster:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/clusterawareupdating02.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2187\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2187\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/clusterawareupdating02.png?w=257\" alt=\"clusterawareupdating02\" width=\"257\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/clusterawareupdating02.png 480w, https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/clusterawareupdating02-257x300.png 257w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 257px) 100vw, 257px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the moment, I can&#8217;t find information about this topic on the TechNet pages, there is a small statement to the Technical Preview (TP) (<a href=\"https:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/mt595861.aspx#BKMK_ClusterServerUpdates\" target=\"_blank\">click here<\/a>), and some information is within the Wizard itself, as example, you can see at the bottom of the previous picture, that a failure within the resume script execution will stop the maintenance operations. But the following questions remains:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the Release Notes to the TP is a PowerShell script given, but the help text of the Script box recommends to use the &#8220;Echo command&#8221;, which would be a normal batch script. I have configured a PowerShell Script with the return command, but my tests were not successful:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/clusterawareupdating03.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2188\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2188\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/clusterawareupdating03.png?w=300\" alt=\"ConfigMgr CAU Script Box\" width=\"300\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/clusterawareupdating03.png 560w, https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/clusterawareupdating03-300x218.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>It would be interesting to understand how this feature works, especially how it recognizes how many nodes are in progress, to give another node the install instruction.<\/li>\n<li>Does this Option &#8220;All devices are part of the same server cluster&#8221; act like a maintenance window? Which means, that Software updates, Software installation and Task Sequences respect this coordination<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I hope that Microsoft will add more Information for this addition, so that we can implement it in required Scenarios, as I mentioned in the first sentence of this post, we are on the way, but we haven&#8217;t reached the goal yet \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi folks, we are on the way, it will finally happen: We will be able to serve Clusters with System Center Configuration Manager and it&#8217;s update functionality.
