{"id":1903,"date":"2015-09-28T15:37:36","date_gmt":"2015-09-28T13:37:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/?p=1903"},"modified":"2015-09-28T15:37:36","modified_gmt":"2015-09-28T13:37:36","slug":"sccm-2012-osd-pxe-not-working","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/?p=1903","title":{"rendered":"SCCM 2012 &#8211; OSD PXE not working"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi reader,<\/p>\n<p>A few weeks ago I changed a lot within my LAB: I divided the Clients from the Servers into separate VLANs to have a more accurate Lab.<br \/>\nNow I wanted to install a VM on my Windows 10 Hyper-V environment, but when I tried to boot PXE, the machine stays for a while on this status:<br \/>\nPerforming DHCP Negotiation<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe01.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe01.png?w=300\" alt=\"DHCP Negotiation\" width=\"300\" height=\"73\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1904\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe01.png 406w, https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe01-300x73.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nAfterwards the System told me, that there was DHCP failed:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe02.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe02.png?w=300\" alt=\"DHCP failed\" width=\"300\" height=\"73\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1905\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe02.png 671w, https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe02-300x73.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I thought, that this would be Firewall\/DHCP\/DHCP-Relay related issue, thus the clients did also not get a Lease on the DHCP Server, I only saw some Discovers and Offers, but not more. The firewall did not show any packets that would be dropped because of missing rules (but while searching the net I found this interesting Site about the Broadcast of DHCP Relays: https:\/\/supportforums.cisco.com\/discussion\/11853326\/dhcp-relay-pxe-nexus-5500).<\/p>\n<p>It took a while until I realized what I&#8217;m missing:<br \/>\nDHCP Boot Option 66 and 67!<br \/>\n*facepalm*<\/p>\n<p>After configuring Boot Option 66 to my SCCM\/WDS Server, and added \\smsboot\\x86\\wdsnbp.com to Option 67 from my Client Scope, it worked like a charm.<\/p>\n<p>Option <strong>66<\/strong>: FQDN-Of-Server (IP is also usable)<br \/>\nOption <strong>67<\/strong>: \\smsboot\\x86\\wdsnbp.com<br \/>\n<strong>But wait!<\/strong><br \/>\nWith Option 67 set like above, UEFI Clients will not be able to boot the PXE Image, a Generation 2 Hyper-V VM will show you:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe03.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe03.png?w=300\" alt=\"PE\/COFF image invalid\" width=\"300\" height=\"74\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1907\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe03.png 674w, https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe03-300x74.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n&#8220;The PE\/COFF image is invalid&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This means, that you should use the UEFI PXE image within boot Option 67<br \/>\nOption <strong>67<\/strong>: SMSBoot\\x64\\wdsmgfw.efi<br \/>\nAfterwards Hyper-V Gen2 VMs and UEFI Clients will be able to boot from PXE, but BIOS based clients no longer. Here is the PXE Error PXE-E79 shown, when a Generation 1 Hyper-V machine tries to boot a UEFI image:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe04.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe04.png?w=300\" alt=\"PXE-E79\" width=\"300\" height=\"81\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1909\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe04.png 636w, https:\/\/blog.hosebei.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/dhcp_pxe04-300x81.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>So how can you get both?<\/strong><br \/>\nDo not use DHCP options, use ip helpers to configure the PXE Server.
